On 25th of August 2025, HICUP Lab member Una Vuletić successfully defended her master’s thesis titled “Computational Analysis and Visualization of Viewing Behavior: Interactive vs. Non-Interactive Documentary.”

The defense was attended by many students and professors from FAMNIT. Una’s work was supervised by Associate Prof. Dr. Matjaž Kljun and Associate Prof. Dr. Klen Čopič Pucihar.

The thesis explores the influence of interactivity on viewers’ cognitive and emotional engagement. Analysis of eye-tracking and facial-emotion data revealed higher pupil dilation and larger saccades during interactive segments, as well as more frequent emotional expressions. These findings indicate that interactivity can shape both visual attention and emotional engagement in documentary experiences.
