HICUP Successes at ISS 2022

In-person demonstration of the paper interfaces project by Cuauhtli Campos during the demo sessions of ISS 2022

Last November 2022, HICUP Lab achieved several accomplishments during the recently-concluded ACM ISS 2022 Conference. As an annual conference series starting in 2006, ACM ISS (formerly known as ACM ITS, International Conference on Interactive Tabletops and Surfaces) is the premier venue for research addressing the design, development and use of new and emerging tabletop, digital surface, interactive spaces and multi-surface technologies.

This year, it was held in hybrid mode with in-person events in Wellington, New Zealand and online via Zoom and Discord.

Three (3) FULL papers were accepted and presented in the main track of the conference. The proceedings were published in the December 2022 (No. ISS) issue of the Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction (PACMHCI). These papers are:

  • A Survey of Augmented Piano Prototypes: Has Augmentation Improved Learning Experiences? by Jordan Aiko Deja, Sven Mayer, Klen Čopič Pucihar and Matjaž Kljun.
  • Dynamic Pinhole Paper: Interacting with Horizontal Displays through Perforated Paper by Cuauhtli Campos, Matjaž Kljun, and Klen Čopič Pucihar
  • LightMeUp: Back-print Illumination Paper Display with Multi-stable Visuals by Cuauhtli Campos, Matjaž Kljun, Jakub Sandak and Klen Čopič Pucihar

In addition, one of these papers also received an Honorable Mention Best Paper Award – which is given to the top 5% of the papers accepted in the conference.

The paper by Jordan Aiko Deja, Sven Mayer, Klen Čopič Pucihar and Matjaž Kljun was given the Honorable Mention Paper Award during the ISS Townhall on 23 Nov 2022.

HICUP Lab also had demos, poster papers and doctoral symposium contributions during the conference.

Congratulations to the paper authors!
