HICUP Lab hosts interns from France and Germany

2021 Interns with HICUP Lab members

One of the group’s thrusts is to foster active collaborations abroad continuously. Thanks to various funding agencies and bilateral programs, we were able to host two interns just recently.

Clement Delteil, France

Clement joined the HICUP lab last September 06 2021. We can’t say this was the first time he arrived in Koper since he also had his Erasmus exchange from Feb 2020 to June 2020. He enjoyed his stay, so he returned to Koper and joined the lab to pursue a data science internship. He stayed with us for six months.

He is taking the BS-MS Computer Science program from the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM), France. During his stay, he worked with Assoc. Prof. Marko Tkalčič and Elham Motamedi, involving data collection, scraping and preparation for a more extensive study on movie recommender systems. During his six month stay, he participated in several user studies, experiments, demonstrations which introduced him to the other research that the lab is doing.

His stay in Koper was supported by the Erasmus Traineeship Program, which supports university students, enabling them to work in a foreign institute, laboratory or organisation.

Verena Biener, Germany

Verena joined HICUP Lab on September 21 2021. She is one of the PhD students in the Mixed Reality Lab of Coburg University. HICUP Lab collaborates with the group led by Prof. Jens Grubert of Coburg University, Germany. She collaborated with Dr Matjaž Kljun, Dr Klen Čopič Pucihar, and Maheshya Weerasinghe during her stay. They performed several studies on language learning and working in virtual reality (VR). Her visit was brief (9 weeks), but Verena did not miss out on a few events and tourist spots during her stay in Slovenia.

Her visit to Koper was funded by the bilateral project between Slovenia and Germany (Slovenia Research Agency ARRS and German Research Agencies DFG and DAAD).

HICUP Lab is always open to accommodate foreign visitors, interns and students. While it was truly challenging to host some of them especially during covid-19, we find ways to make their stay as warm and productive as possible.

If you are interested in joining HICUP Lab, please don’t hesitate to contact the professors.
