Guest Lecture by Alan Said

Associate Professor Alan Said from the University of Gothenburg delivered a talk at the Monday Seminar at FAMNIT. His research covers user modeling, personalization, recommender systems, evaluation, and reproducibility, and he currently serves as the Head of Education at the Department of Applied IT.

In his presentation titled “The Environmental Cost of Recommender Systems”, he discussed the often-overlooked sustainability challenges in the design and development of machine learning models. His talk encouraged us to reflect on the environmental impact of our computational choices and to consider sustainability as a key factor in the future of AI research and system design.
